Got the black ones. Slightly elliptical; feel good in the hands. They have a small tab that covers that short bit of exposed gastube. Nice touch. Tight fit; went on no probs. Nine heat-escape holes; rear two covered by heat shields. Heat shields are natural aluminum. Would have preferred black anodized, but was lucky to get these. Reviews from another source said the ones they got felt flimsy and chintzy. These feel "original." Large alignment stubs. Worth the cash. Buy 'em! Mid-length set-ups feel great. If you're thinkin' about building a new upper, try one. Love mine.
March 17, 2011: I made a mistake in that I cut off BOTH little tabs that cover the short bit of exposed gas tube. I have a round handguard cap. These handguards were slightly out of alignment with the center of the cap. I cut off one tab; it felt OK but I thought I could do better. I cut off the the other tab. Now the handguards rattle a bit. Not happy. Now have to buy a new set. Cut off just ONE of the little tabs.
